If You Have A Pulse, You Have Mental Health

Mental health isn't something that happens to other people. It isn't a label or a diagnosis or a sign of weakness. It's universal. Every single one of us has it. The question is simply how well we're taking care of it…

The foundation of all of this is: Awareness. Knowing where you're at, honestly and without judgement.

Because struggling doesn't mean you’re broken! It means you’re human. And it is absolutely possible to go from struggle to strength — I've seen it happen more times than I can count in my work.

Acceptance As The Starting Point

You can't work on yourself until you meet yourself where you actually are.

Life is complicated. It throws curveballs, brings joy, hands us personal challenges we didn't ask for and mindset battles we didn't see coming. How we feel through all of that can be messy, uncomfortable and imperfect. And that's okay.

Accepting yourself, for who you are, how you feel, and where you're at right now, is not giving up and it's not weakness. Only once that acceptance is there, can the real work begin…

Finding What Actually Picks You Up

A big part of that work is simply knowing what lifts you. The things that, done regularly, genuinely improve your mood and keep you ticking over, especially when things get hard.

It Looks Different For Everyone

And that's the point. There's no right answer, just your answer. For some people it's doodling, making art, or losing themselves in music. For others it's a run when the mind won't stop racing, a conversation with the one friend who just gets it, a walk, a favourite café, a good book, or an early night.

The question worth asking yourself is a simple one: what are the things that, done regularly, pick me up? Write them down. Keep them close. Come back to them when things get difficult and your mental fitness starts to slide.

Your Mental Fitness Workout

Do A Weekly Check-In With Yourself

Just two questions. How am I doing? How am I feeling? Honest answers only. No performance, no comparison, just a genuine moment of checking in with yourself the way you would with someone you care about.

Stop Comparing Your Backstage To Everyone Else's Showreel

People share their highlights. The polished, edited, best-angle version of their lives. You're not seeing the reality, you're seeing the showreel. Your messy, complicated, beautifully human experience is not less than theirs. It's just more honest.

Reach Out To The One Person Who Gets You

You know who it is. The person you can say the real thing to, without editing yourself. Make space for that conversation this week. It matters more than you think.

Know Your Tools

There are resources out there that can help and I have a range available: including the Traffic Lights self-assessment tool, a Mental Fitness Action Plan, a Personal Formulation tool, and burnout resources. Think of them as additions to your kit bag. Drop me a message and I'll point you in the right direction.

Mental Health Work Is An Investment, Not A Last Resort

Think of it as an upgrade. Adding a new app that helps everything else run a little better. You don't have to be at rock bottom to benefit from it, in fact, the earlier you invest, the better the return.

Small steps, taken consistently, add up to something significant. What's one thing you could do for your mental fitness today?
